On The Road: International Secret Agents Festival Bay Area Recap!

September 27, 2011 in Uncategorized by DANakaDAN

Traveled up to the Bay this weekend to work on the second show in the trilogy of International Secret Agents (ISA) gigs.   Biggest show yet too at a 3,000+ capacity venue- San Jose Civic Center.    This time around they swapped out Victor Kim for the incredibly lovely and talented Kina Grannis (no complaints here) and added recent Disney Mainstay- Roshon Fegan.  New Heights, David Choi, Wong Fu, Far East Movement, and I.AM.ME continued the party from the Seattle ISA.  BTW- definitely sporting MYX during the weekend- carried all the gear i needed in the bag to the left. Got in early on Saturday to make sure that all the lighting, sound, and video got set up. LED’s left and right!  Started up sound checks at 2pm, run through at 4pm, and then was ready to rock at 6pm when doors opened.  Even though there were some difficulties earlier on (which seem to happen no matter how prepared someone is), I have to say that it was the most ready we’ve ever been when doors finally opened.

Roshon Fegan opened the show with 3 tracks, including a set ending keytar solo. Have you ever seen a Keytar solo? If not I heavily push you to do so…Immediately. Youtube it and then google a keytar performance in your home town. It’s pretty hypnotic and dare I say you haven’t lived unless you’ve experienced the wonders of Keytar.

Next up, New Heights brought on their Seattle rock including songs off of their newly debuted album (Congrats to them BTW! They had their album release party the next day).  David Choi followed after with the audience singing along to every word. Finally to end the first half of the show, America’s Best Dance Crew Season 6 Champs,  I.AM.ME Crew, hit the stage. Quite literally hitting the stage…several times.

We set up a few things during intermission, fans got their merch on, and then the second half started with Kina Grannis.  Wong Fu debuted one of their latest shorts, and with heavy anticipation and energy- Far East Movement took the stage.   Even though i’ve seen them perform many times in the past, their performance gets me each time.  Even though it’s the same set, it’s really…a different set. Their energy and the way they deliver makes it so unique and memorable each time I watch them.

Ended the show, cleaned up (helped that the hotel we were staying at and keeping all equipment was a few steps away), and the artists did the meet and greet.  Done. Done. Done. Great show, great times- here’s to the LA Festival this weekend- which may I add (shameless self plug here)- myself and afterschoolspecial will be opening for along side all those acts, plus B.o.B., Jay Park, Sean Kingston, and so many more.  Take a looksie at my ugly mug below in the trailer.  If you want to purchase tix- get on it today before they sell out!
